Finding Peace in The Slower Self

"التأني من الرحمن والعجلة من الشيطان"

“Deliberation is from God, and haste is from Satan.”

As we step closer to the blessed month of Ramadan, I’ve found myself reflecting on the profound lessons drawn from fasting during Sha’ban. This period has been more than just preparation for the rigors of Ramadan; it has been a journey towards inner peace, offering clarity in ways I had not anticipated.

The Art of Letting Go

In the stillness of my fasts, I’ve learned the art of letting go—letting go of daily stresses that often feel overwhelming and recognizing that, in the grand scheme of things, these are but minor disturbances in our journey. Fasting has served as a reminder that the temporary discomforts of hunger and thirst are opportunities to shift focus from worldly distractions to spiritual elevation.

Embracing a Slower Pace

Fasting in Sha’ban has reintroduced me to my ‘slower self’—the part of me that moves with deliberate intention rather than haste. It is in this slowed pace that I find clarity and the ability to listen more attentively to the quiet place within me. This place, often overshadowed by the noise of our busy lives, holds the wisdom and patience we need to face any challenge. It is where we connect deeply with Allah (SWT), away from the clutter of the world.

Preparing for Ramadan

As Ramadan approaches, I encourage you to embrace this time to connect with your own inner quiet. Allow it to guide you, to settle the noise of the external, and to prepare you spiritually for the month ahead.

Use these days to reflect on the paths you are walking, the directions you are taking, and how closely they align with the journey towards the Divine that we all seek to undertake.

A Time for Transformation

Let us together look forward to Ramadan not just as a month of fasting but as an opportunity to truly transform—to listen to that quiet voice within us and to realign with what matters most. May this journey bring us closer to Allah (SWT), filling our hearts with patience, wisdom, and serenity.

Wishing you all a peaceful and spiritually enriching Ramadan.
