Embracing Darkness & Feeling Low
In our darkest moments, we often don’t need advice. What we truly long for is connection—a quiet, unspoken reassurance that reminds us we are not alone.
Sometimes, life feels overwhelming. The noise of our thoughts, the weight of our emotions, and the pull of our struggles can make us feel distant—not just from the world, but from Allah. In these moments, silence doesn’t have to be an emptiness. It can be an invitation. A space where we stop striving for control and begin to simply sit with Allah.
I was reminded of this the other night. I couldn’t sleep, weighed down by personal thoughts. I wasn’t searching for answers or comfort. I simply needed something to connect to. And in that stillness, an opportunity arose—a moment to pray, to turn to Allah in the quiet of the night. It wasn’t planned, but it felt as if Allah gently opened a door and welcomed me in.
The Beauty of Simply Showing Up
The beauty of our connection with Allah is that it doesn’t require perfect words or elaborate intentions. Sometimes, it’s simply the act of showing up—raw and unfiltered. It’s a gentle nudge from Allah reminding us that He is near.
This same gentle nudge is what Ramadan offers us. It arrives quietly, like a light in the distance, at a time when many of us feel spiritually heavy or unsure of ourselves. Ramadan doesn’t ask for perfection or a grand scheme to transform our lives overnight. It meets us exactly where we are—in our doubts, our struggles, and even in our darkness.
“Allah is the Protector of those who believe; He brings them out of darkness into the light.” (Qur’an 2:257)
Embracing Small Steps Toward Light
Perhaps you’ve been thinking about Ramadan but feel overwhelmed by the idea of preparing for it. You might even feel distant from your faith or unsure of where to start. But Ramadan isn’t about sudden leaps. It’s about small, meaningful steps—gentle moments of connection with Allah that gradually illuminate our hearts.
So, as we anticipate Ramadan, let’s not burden ourselves with perfect schedules or unrealistic expectations. Instead, let’s take a moment to sit with Allah in the stillness, to acknowledge where we are and trust that He will guide us forward.
And in those quiet moments, we may just find exactly what we’ve been searching for—not in grand plans, but in the gentle realization that Allah has been waiting for us all along.
All we need to do is show up.
